Stocks Going Ex Dividend the Second Week of January 2014

Here is our latest update on the stock trading technique called 'Buying Dividends'. This is the process of buying stocks before the ex dividend date and selling the stock shortly after the ex date at about the same price, yet still being entitled to the dividend. This technique generally works only in bull markets, and can work in flat or choppy markets, but you need to avoid the technique during bear markets.

In order to be entitled to the dividend, you have to buy the stock before the ex-dividend date, and you can't sell the stock until after the ex date. The actual dividend may not be paid for another few weeks. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has compiled a downloadable and sortable list of the stocks going ex dividend in the near future. The list contains many dividend paying companies, lots with market caps over $500 million, and yields over 2%. Here are a few examples showing the stock symbol, the ex-dividend date, and the yield.

Death Stocks

Death is kind of a depressing topic but it is something that won't go away and several companies are making money due to that fact. Death stocks are companies involved in the business of cemeteries, cremation, coffins, funeral parlors, and headstones.

Starbucks in a Funeral Home

Death has become such a popular industry that Starbucks (SBUX) has put one of its gourmet coffee shops in the Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina. There are many companies that operate in thisindustry , and based on the list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over half a dozen companies in the death business. One interesting thing to note is that most of these companies pay dividends.

Memorials and Caskets

For example, Matthews International (MATW) is in the business of memorialization products for cemeteries. The company produces manufactures cast bronze and granite memorials, cast and etched architectural products, mausoleums, and wood and metal caskets. The stock trades at 21.4 times present earnings and sports a yield of 1.0%.

Cemeteries and Crematoria

Service Corporation International (SCI) is the largest funeral service company by market cap. The company also owns cemeteries and crematoria, and even sell s caskets. The company pays a decent yield of 1.5%, and trades at 17.5 times forward earnings.

Caskets and Urns

Hillenbrand (HI) is the largest publicly traded casket manufacturer, which also makes cremation caskets, containers, vaults, and urns. The forward price to earnings ratio is 29, and the yield is a fairly generous 2.7%.

The success of the IPO for the company, Wix.com (WIX), based in Tel Aviv, Israel, has drawn attention to Israeli stocks. Wix, which is in the business of providing website creation services, rose over 70% since going public less than two months ago. If you look at the Market Vectors Israel ETF (ISRA) and compare it to the S and P 500 over the last six months, you would see that the ETF has outperformed the general market by a few percentage points.

So if an investor wants to invest in Israeli stocks, but want to reduce your risk by limiting yourself to dividend paying stocks, there are about ten Israeli stocks with yields ranging from 0.3% to over 12%, according to the list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.

Pharmaceuticals

One example is Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (TEVA), which is the largest generic drug manufacturer in the world. The stock sports a yield of 2.7% and pays its diviends quarterly. Get the following for Free: Movies, TV Shows, Kindle Library Access, Free Shipping from Amazon

If you are a regular shopper at Amazon, you are probably familiar with the Free Super Saver Shipping option. The disadvantage of that option is that it can take up to eight business days, and that's after all of your items are available to ship. In addition, you need to order at least $35 worth of items. Amazon recently raised this threshold from $25. I've had times when I've had an order within a dollar or two of that amount, and had to come up with something else, in order to get the free shipping.
Well now you have another option. You have also heard about Amazon Prime, which allows you to have these benefits, but you weren't sure if it was worth it. Well how would you like to have Amazon Prime for Free?
Amazon is offering this special for a limited time (I believe through January 10) so sign up now. It allows you free access to Amazon Prime for 30 days. Here's what you get:
* More than 40,000 movies and TV episodes
* Kindle Owners' Lending Library to borrow Kindle books
* FREE two-day shipping, no minimum order size, as many times as you want in the 30 day period

There's No Business Like Show Business Stocks

Do you know what the number one activity is on Christmas Day (other than eating turkey)? Going to the movies. And this Christmas, there were many opening-day movies to choose from, including "Grudge Match" starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone, “The Hobbit”, “47 Ronin” with Keanu Reeves, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” with Ben Stiller, and of course the stock trader's favorite, Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

So how can the average investor participate in these blockbuster and other forms of entertainment? WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has a list of about a dozen entertainment related stocks, all of which pay dividends, with yields ranging from 1.9% to 5.9%.

One of these high yielders is Regal Entertainment Group (RGC), operator of the largest chain of theater circuits in the United States. This Knoxville, Tennessee based company trades at 17.6 times trailing earnings and 16.2 times forward earnings. Earnings for the latest quarter were up an incredible 212.9% year over year, on a great 17.3% rise in revenues. The company pays a very generous yield of 4.3%.

Another entertainment stock that pays a dividend is Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (CNK), which is the third largest theater chain. Trailing price to earnings ratio is 24.0, and the forward PE is 16.0. Quarterly earnings came through on this company also, rising 68.9% on a 19.8% revenue increase. The stock yields 3.0%.

Some of the cable stocks pay high yields, such as Comcast (CMCSA), yielding 1.5%, and Corus Entertainment Inc. (CJREF) paying 4.2%. To see other high yield entertainment stocks,go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.
