Stocks Going Ex Dividend the First Week of May
Here is our latest update on the stock trading technique called 'Buying Dividends,' also commonly referred to as 'Dividend Capture.' This is the process of buying stocks before the ex dividend date and selling the stock shortly after the ex date at about the same price, yet still being entitled to the dividend. This technique generally works only in bull markets, and can work in flat or choppy markets, but you need to avoid the technique during bear markets.
In order to be entitled to the dividend, you have to buy the stock before the ex-dividend date, and you can't sell the stock until after the ex date. The actual dividend may not be paid for another few weeks. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has compiled a downloadable and sortable list of the stocks going ex dividend in the near future. The list contains many dividend paying companies, lots with market caps over $500 million, and yields over 2%. Here are a few examples showing the stock symbol, the ex-dividend date, and the yield.
The AES Corporation | AES | 5/1/2015 | 3.0% |
First Niagara Financial | FNFG | 5/1/2015 | 3.7% |
Independent Bank Corporation | IBCP | 5/1/2015 | 3.1% |
Idacorp | IDA | 5/1/2015 | 3.1% |
Pacific Continental Corp | PCBK | 5/1/2015 | 3.1% |
Western Refining, Inc. | WNR | 5/1/2015 | 2.9% |
The additional ex-dividend stocks can be found at wsnn.com. (If you have been to the website before, and the latest link doesn't show up, you may have to empty your cache.) If you like dividend stocks, you should check out some of the other high yield stock lists at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com or WSNN.com. Most of the lists are free.
Dividend definitions:

Sewage Water Beer: Will Other Breweries Jump on Board?
Here is a way to help deal with the drought. Make beer out of sewage water. Think it is weird? Well, it is already taking place in the state of Oregon, which has approved the use of water from the sewer to produce beer. Maybe they should call it "drought draught beer."
Oregon’s Clean Water Services created the process for making the beer with wastewater and the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission has approved the process. Will it take off with the major brewers? Who knows? But with over half a dozen states dealing with drought issues, consumers are avoiding drinking tap water and are turning to bottled water and beer as an alternative.
Investors have a few beer companies to choose from, which would benefit from increased consumption. According to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are more than ten publicly traded beer stocks, and many of them pay dividends.
For exampe, Molson Coors Brewing Company (TAP) is a high yielding brewery with a payout rate of 2.3%. It trades at 27 times trailing earnings and 18 times forward earnings. The company has many popular brands, including Coors, Molson, Heineken, Amstel Light, Miller Life, Corona, and several more. It distributes its beverages in the US, Canada, and Europe. The company reports earnings on May 7.
Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) is another large brewer, with such brands as Budweiser, Becks, Leffe, Bud Light, Michelob, Skol, Brahma, and Antarctica. It has a trailing price to earnings ratio of 22.3, a forward PE of 21.9. The stock pays a yield of 2.0%.
If you are looking for a beer company that is a bit more speculative, check out Craft Brew Alliance, Inc. (BREW), which has the Kona, Widmer Brothers, Redhook, Omission, and Square Mile brands. The stock trades at 86 times trailing earnings and 37 times forward earnings. The company reports earnings on May 6.
Maybe beer stocks can quench your thirst for growth stocks. Don't you just love these great stock ticker symbols these beer companies have? For a free list of all the beer stocks, several of which pay dividends, go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.

Did You Buy Amazon Like I Told You To? The Stock Was Up $55 per Share Today
Did you notice the stock that jumped big time today? Amazon (AMZN) was up an incredible $55 a share, a one day increase of over 14%. So did you buy Amazon like I told you to? I called it a screaming buy!
Here is what I wrote on a previous article.
The rest of the article contained a dozen bullet points about why Amazon is great.
Don't you remember this post? I posted the Amazon recommendation only eight years ago, on Thursday, March 28, 2007, when the stock was trading for only 38.10 per share. Now the stock is at 445.10 er share. This is an amazing increase of 1,068%.
If you had bought 200 shares at that time for $7,620, it would now be worth $89,020. Not too bad a return. Hope you bought some at the time and still own it.
Here is what I wrote on a previous article.
I am always looking to write about either stocks that I don't own or industries and sectors that I don't own stocks in, so that it doesn't look like I'm tooting my own horn, or my own stock, as it were. Therefore I was quite happy to discover a stock that looks very favorable, that I don't own, and that is Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN). Here are some positive bullet points about Amazon.

Who is the Wealthiest Presidential Candidate?
Several politicians have announced their candidacy for president of the United States for the 2016 presidential election. There appears to be a lot of coverage in the press about income and wealth disparity in the US so it is interesting to review the approximate average estimated net worth and income of the current major presidential contenders. Here they are:
Net Worth | Annual Income | |
Hillary Clinton (D) | $13,130,504 | $13,801,055 |
Ted Cruz (R) | $2,549,518 | $1,253,159 |
Rand Paul (R) | $2,500,000 | $300,000 |
Marco Rubio (R) | ($594,995) | $222,034 |
As you can see, Hillary Clinton is the wealthiest, in terms of both net worth and annual income, in excess of $13 million. Ted Cruz is in second place and Rand Paul is in third place. The poorest is Marco Rubio with surprisingly a negative net worth, and the lowest income of the group.
Much of this information came from a website called DaveManuel.com, which has a lot of research and calculations behind the numbers. It is an interesting and informative resource.

Top Desalination Stocks: The Desalinization Companies are Poised to Move
Whether you call it desalination, desalinization, or desalinisation, they all mean the same thing: removing salt from salt water, in order to produce fresh water for consumption or irrigation. The important fact though is the fact that this process is becoming more important in California and other southwestern states.
The news on the California drought has been continuous and scary. California Governor Jerry Brown declared a Drought State of Emergency back in January. The Los Angeles Times recently ran an article entitled California faces 'Dust Bowl'-like conditions amid drought.
So how to deal with the drought other than importing icebergs from Alaska? Many scientists believe that desalination may be the best way to go. Fortunately, there are several companies that are involved in the desalinization business, according to the free list of water desalination stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.
One example is Consolidated Water Co. Ltd. (CWCO), which develops and operates seawater desalination plants in the Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, Belize, the British Virgin Islands, and Indonesia, using reverse osmosis technology to produce fresh water from seawater. The company has been in business since 1973. The stock trades at 29 times trailing earnings and 19 times forward earnings. The company will be reporting its latest quarterly earnings between May 11 and May 15. The stock sports a generous yield of 2.7%.
Tetra Tech Inc. (TTEK) is in the business of providing consulting, engineering, and technical services for the water sector. The company is building a large Desalination Plant in San Antonio, Texas, which is expected to produce 12 million gallons per day of water when the plant opens in 2016. The company is also working on a 10-mile-long conveyance pipeline for the Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Project in California, which will provide a new supply of fresh drinking water to San Diego County.
In addition, Tetra Tech is using membrane technology to tap into alternative water supplies, converting brackish water into drinking water. The stock has a price to earnings ratio of 15 and a forward PE of 13. The company will be announcing earnings between April 28 and May 4. The yield on the stock is 1.2%.
Veolia Environnement S.A. (VEOEY) is a Paris, France company involved in water management. The company has been in business for over 150 years. Veolia has built more than 1,700 reverse osmosis desalination plants and systems in 85 countries during the last forty years. The plants produce more than 5.7 million cubic meters per day of fresh water. The stock trades at 55 times trailing earnings.
If you want a list of water desalination stocks , go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. Hopefully, these stocks will get fresh water flowing and profits flowing in your portfolio.

Stocks Going Ex Dividend the Third Week of April

It's Amazing How Dirty Words Make It Into SEC Filings
From a TWC filing with the SEC |
It appeared in a filing for Time Warner Cable (TWC) on Form 425, relating to a press headline.
It also appeared in a Form 424B3 filing for LendingClub (LC), from a customer's comments, with regard to the Member Payment Dependent Notes.
Even some of the smaller companies are not immune, such as Fantex (VNDSL), which was in a transcription of a radio interview.
The 'S' word actually shows up in 22 SEC filings. Several are related to Wells Fargo, but in that case, it is someone's name.
3 Short Squeeze Stocks with Upcoming Earnings Announcements
A short squeeze takes place when the short sellers rush to cover their short positions when a stock starts to move up. This gives traders some interesting opportunities. If a stock is heavily shorted, and there is any good news, it could really spike. One of the most common types of good news is earnings that beat analyst estimates.
Here are a few heavily stocks with coming earnings announcements. Pilgrim's Pride Corporation (PPC) has an incredible 60% of its float shorted. It has a short interest ratio of 16; this means that it would take 16 days for all the short sellers to cover their positions based on the current daily volume. The stock trades at 9 times trailing earnings and 11 times forward earnings. The company will be reporting around April 27 to May 1.
King Digital Entertainment (KING) has 26% of the float held currently short, with a days to cover ratio of 11. The stock has a current price to earnings ratio of 9 and forward PE of 8. It expects to report between May 5 an May 11.
One more stock that short sellers are all over is NeuStar, Inc. (NSR), with 57% shorted, and a short interest ratio also of 11. The stock trades at 9 times trailing earnings and 10 times forward earnings. The company will be making its earnings announcement between April 14 and April 20.
Hopefully you can make money on the long side with the right stock that has a big short position. If you like interesting stock lists like this, check out the many free stock lists at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.
