If you look at the above chart, you will notice the trend of closures since the year 2000. Last month, April, there were 23 bank closures, the most closures in the history of the FDIC, with the exception of one spike in July of 2009. The latest month of May shows only one week of data.

The latest banks to 'bite the dust' include:
Midwest Bank and Trust Company
Southwest Community Bank
New Liberty Bank
Satilla Community Bank
1st Pacific Bank of California
Towne Bank of Arizona
