Stocks With Big Insider Buying

Insiders are the officers and directors of companies, along with the owners of 10% or more of the outstanding shares of company. When they buy a stock, check out the stock, as there can be only one reason why purchases would be made; because they think the stock is a buying opportunity. Here are some stocks with significant buying by insiders.

Patterson-UTI Energy (PTEN) is an onshore contract drilling company. Recently, two of the officers bought almost $2 million in shares each, and the third insider bought almost $4 million worth of the stock. The stock trades at 20 times earnings, and pays a dividend of 2.1%. The company announced earnings today announced earnings of 6 cents a share for the first quarter, beeating analysts' estimates of 3 cents a share.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) had some recent inside buying also. One officer bought over $260,000 in stock, and the other officer bought over $370,000 in stock. The stock trades at 45 times trailing earnings, and 31 times forward earnings. The company recently reported adjusted earnings per share of $3.88, a huge increase of 47%.

Cidara Therapeutics (CDTX) a biopharmaceutical company, had a couple of large insider purchases. A director bought approximately $3.2 million of the shares and a 10% owner bought a similar amount.

25 Year Anniversary of Stock Market Crash: Dow Drops 205 NASDAQ Drops 67

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash. Is today a repeat of history. At least today's drop wasn't as bad. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tanked by 205 points or 1.5% and the NASDAQ went down by 67 points or about 2.2%. This is the biggest drop in about four months.

Did anyone read the article from Sunday, October 14, on How to Speculate on a Market Drop Without Options or Shorting? The article described the Daily S&P 500 Bear 3X Shares ETF (SPXS), which was up 5.1% today. The Direxion Daily Energy Bear 3X Shares (ERY) was up 4.5% today.

As for the popular stocks, Google was down 74 points in the last two days due to missing estimates on revenues and a substantial drop in earnings per share. Apple (AAPL) fell over 22 points today. Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG) was off by about 43 points, or 15%.

What Stock Dropped Almost 100 Points on Friday?

Do you know what stock dropped almost 100 points on Friday? This is not counting Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A) (BRK-B) which was down 1265 points. The stock that was down big time to the tune of 21.5% was Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG), the operator of numerous Mexican restaurants throughout the US. This has been a hot stock of late, closing at 403.86 last Thursday, but dropping as low as 307.20, down about 96 points, then closing at 316.98.

The company reported sales below what Wall street analysts were expecting, which in turn, triggered several downgrades for the stock. The stock trades around 29 times forward earnings and does not pay a dividend.
