Actually, it wasn't really a $1 investment, it was really a $1 bet, actually a 50 pence bet. A man in England bet one dollar on the results of eight horse races at eight different race tracks, in something called an accumulator bet. Every horse came in and the man won 1 million pounds, which is equal to about $1.97 million.
