3D Printer Stocks Printing Higher Stock Prices
What caused this increase? Anything from a depressed industry finally participating in a rising market during the last couple months to positive news about vascular biologic 3D printing research to short covering to other rumors. Whatever the reason, the stocks are moving.
The problem with these stocks are that their price to earnings ratios are at atmospheric levels, assuming they even have earnings. But that hasn't kept the Internet stocks and stocks of several other industries to continue to move higher without earnings. Plus strong revenue increases help propel the stocks. Investors have over two dozen 3D printing related stocks that are available on the list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.
The biggest pure play is 3D Systems (DDD), a Rock Hill, South Carolina based company, founded in 1986, which manufactures 3D printers. The stock trades at a very high 149 times current earnings and a little more reasonable yet still fairly high 53 times forward earnings. Earnings for the latest quarter dropped 17%% yet revenues jumped over 44%. The company has $306 million in cash, with $18.92 million in debt.
Another big 3D printer stock is Stratasys (SSYS), which produces three-dimensional printers, and rapid prototyping systems. This Minnesota based 3D printer was founded in 1989. The company currently has negative earnings but trades at 39 times forward earnings. One nice feature about this company is that it is debt free with $607 million in cash. The quarterly revenues increased by 55%.
Organovo (ONVO), founded in 2007, specializes in 3D bioprinting technology, which is the printing of body parts. The company had cash and cash equivalents of approximately $48 million, with debt of only $15 thousand. Quarterly revenues dropped by over 46% compared to last year.
Products that can be made with 3D printers include toys, cookies, even houses and cars. For a list of all the 3-D printing companies, go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.

Are Apple and Microsoft 3D Printing Companies?
3D Printing Presses are Printing 3D Printer Articles
Even the number of articles about 3D printing has exploded. Articles such as How 3D Printers Are Cranking Out Eyes, Bones, and Blood Vessels, and I 3D-Printed An AR-15 Assault Rifle — And It Shoots Great!, and An Aid Group is 3D-Printing Medical Supplies in Haiti, along with dozens of other 3D articles, have appeared in the last 24 hours. Are 3D Printing Companies Printing a 3D Bubble?
Last year, I thought this industry was active. I bought DDD around 19 and sold it for 53. But this year, the action in 3D has been wild, both on the upside and the downside. Just look at Voxeljet (VJET). The stock dropped over ten points on November 19, then dropped almost another 19 points on November 20. Look at Makism 3D Corp., Inc. (MDDD). It dropped over 41% a couple days ago. Yet if you look at Stratasys Ltd. (SSYS) over the last couple weeks, it has risen ten points. The Blue Chip 3D Printing Stocks
If you are wondering if there are any large blue chip companies involved in 3D printing, there is always Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT). Apple bought PrimeSense, a maker of chips that enable 3D machine vision. The stock trades at 14.2 times trailing earnings, and 11.8 times forward earnings, with a 2.3% yield. However, 3D makes up an extremely small part of the company's business (at least for now).It is the same situation for Microsoft. The company created a 3D printing app for Windows 8.1. It's not Microsoft Office, but it's a start. Microsoft trades at 14.6 times earnings with a forward PE of 13.4. The stock pays a yield of 3.0%.
3D Pure Plays
So looking at the 3D printing pure plays, the price to earnings ratios are in the nosebleed areas with 3D Systems at 168 and Stratasys generating negative earnings for the latest quarter. Same with Organovo; it lost 63 cents a share for the quarter and revenues were down 95%.Long term, the 3D printing arena is the place to invest, however, short term, based on numbers, it appears that these companies may be due for a sell-off. Keep some funds available in the event these stocks do crash, creating a great buying opportunity.

The Future of 3D Printing Technology
Reliable Production
Unlike workers that clock in and out every day and their work ethic can vary greatly, a 3D printing system can run 24-hours a day to create anything that you have to produce. Once your company creates a CAD illustration of the object(s) you want to build, you can simply turn the printer on and let it begin printing as many copies of the item that you need. This is great in a plethora of fields, but especially those were manufacturing or creating a product is a valuable part of their business. Car manufacturers can print parts, the housing industry can print building materials, and much more. Printing in 3D is not just for toy enthusiasts or hobbyists anymore. It’s a major development that can help with mass production.
Product Adjustments
With a 3D printer, you can also build new products and quickly adjust any changes that need to be made with them. For companies that make new products, this process formally involved large delays in time while the product would be created, changes would be made, and weeks would pass from the first time the idea was developed to the actual completion date. Now, 3D printers allow companies to develop and print a prototype object, physically touch it and see what can stay as is, or what needs to be changed. This turnaround time for companies is extremely viable for helping create new products for the world to use.
Health Industry
Because a 3D printer can help with creating nearly any 3D object, this is especially true in the health industry. 3D printers can make human tissue and other objects that can mean the difference between life and death. Hospitals that make an investment into a 3D printer can have more supplies on hand and can create new supplies once they run out. This makes their efficiency rating much higher than having to wait for the delivery of health products and not knowing what will happen to the patient in the meantime.
Technology continues to change lives in every aspect in the world. However only so often do true advancements come along that change nearly the entire way things are done. 3D printing is this advancement and will revolutionize the way people create and manufacture items. The best way to participate in this grow area is by investing in 3D printing stocks..
One of the largest companies on the free list of 3D printing companies at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com is 3D Systems Corporation (DDD), which has a market cap of $4.9 billion. 3D Systems is a Rock Hill, South Carolina based company, founded in 1986, which produces 3D printers and related products. The company has $349 million in cash and $32 million in debt.
Another 3D printer is Stratasys (SSYS), which produces three-dimensional printers, rapid prototyping systems, and related consumable materials. This Minnesota based company was founded in 1989. Latest quarterly earnings were negative, however, revenues rose by 116%. This company has the advantage of being debt free with $148 million in cash. This $3.9 billion market cap stock trades at 40 times forward earnings.

3D Printing Stocks Up Over 200% Since I Wrote About Them Last Year
At the time the article was written on December 13, 2012, 3D closed at 46.08, it is now trading at 61.27, an increase of 33%. Stratasys traded at 70.46 back then, now it is at 83.69, a rise of over 18%. And one 3D stock that I didn't write about, and is a much smaller company, is Organovo Holdings (ONVO), which closed at 2.16 on December 13 and is now at 3.84, an incredible increase of 77%.
Of course, this wasn't the first time I wrote about 3D printing. I have featured several articles throughout the year. One of the first articles I wrote about was on January 8, 2012. At that time DDD which closed at 15.81 the next business day, an incredible increase of 287%, and SSYS was at 35.15, and has risen 146%. This is an average percentage increase of 216%.
Is the run on these stocks over? Even though they may be good for the long term, I would say that they are certainly due for a pullback. Now it is time to look for the next hot industry.

Make a 2500 sq ft House in 20 Hours with a 3D Printer - Seriously!
The video features University of Southern California engineering professor, Behrokh Khoshnevis, who shows how houses can be built with a large scale 3D printer in only 20 hours. He calls it Contour Crafting. He also talks about the numerous benefits of using this technique beyond just the cost savings for the construction business. There are many social benefits also. The walls that are created are structurally more sound than conventional walls, there are less CO2 emissions generated, less waste, less inefficiency, reduction of construction accidents, and elimination of slums. He believes that the 3D construction industry can create more jobs, offsetting building jobs that would be eliminated. 3D houses can even be all different in a neighborhood, avoiding the tract housing look, by just making a choice in the software.
I guess if we see KB Home (KBH), Lennar Corp. (LEN), or PulteGroup, Inc. (PHM) start to use one of these 3D homebuilding printers, then we will know that 3D is here to stay.
There are a couple of 3D printing stocks that are available to investors, according to the free list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. 3D Systems Corporation (DDD), a Rock Hill, South Carolina based company, makes and sells 3D printers and related products. Earnings for the latest quarter were down 37.8%, however, the company had a 51.7% boost in revenues. The company has $158 million in cash and about $140 million in total debt.
Another 3D printer business is Stratasys, Inc. (SSYS), which produces three-dimensional printers, rapid prototyping systems, and related consumable materials.
