Can You Invest in Fireworks Stocks to Benefit From July 4?

Independence Day is the biggest day of the year for retail fireworks purchases in the United States. According to a recent article on Yahoo! Finance, Americans will be spending almost a billion dollars on fireworks this July 4.

If you are an investor looking for a fireworks play, you may have found that it is extremely hard to find any publicly traded stocks involved in the fireworks and firecracker industry. There are currently no fireworks stocks in the US.

After extensive research, I have actually come up with a couple of fireworks stocks.

The first one is Panda Fireworks Group Co.,Ltd. (600599:Shanghai), which trades on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. It last traded at 18.10 yuan, up 5.72% for the day, with a low of 17.21 and a high of 18.20. The former stock name was Liuyang Fireworks.

The other other company is Li & Fung Limited (LFUGF), an investment holding company that owns Black Cat Fireworks and Standard Fireworks. However, it is a small part of their overall business. The stock trades on both the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and over-the-counter in the United States. The stock has a price to earnings ratio of 4.7 and pays a generous yield of 8.2%.
