High Yield Ethanol Stocks

A company called Qteros, which is backed by George Soros, has developed a process to use microbes to create enzymes that more efficiently changes plant waste to ethanol. The company has just entered into a joint venture with India-based Praj Industries. Qteros is privately held, but there are plenty of other companies involved in ethanol production and products which are publicly traded, over 15 of which pay dividends according to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. Here are a few examples.

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has a corn processing division which produces ethanol from corn. The stock has a price to earnings ratio of 10.3, a forward P/E of 9.3 and a yield of 2%. Although revenues were up 12.6% for the latest quarter, earnings were down 30.4%.

The Andersons (ANDE), an Ohio based company, is involved in the management of ethanol production facilities and grain and ethanol trading. The stock has a P/E of 12.8, forward P/E of 11.3 and a yield of 1.2%. Earnings for the latest quarter were up 11.5%.

Bunge Ltd. (BG) is a White Plains, New York company founded in 1818 that produces ethanol from sugarcane. The stock has a P/E of 4.9, a forward P/E of 12.3 and a yield of 1.4%. Earnings for the latest quarter were down 8.6%.

A free list of stocks related to ethanol in some way, in an Excel format, which can be updated and sorted, can be found at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.

Disclosure: Author did not own any of the above at the time the article was written.

Warren Buffetts Next Door

The book The Warren Buffetts Next Door: The World's Greatest Investors You've Never Heard Of and What You Can Learn From Them by Matthew Schifrin is an interesting compilation of true stories about 'average Joes' who have made huge amounts of money in the stock market. Some use technical analysis, some use fundamental analysis, and some use gut feelings.

This book gives hope to every investor and trader. Each chapter covers a different person, describing what their occupation is, how old they are, their investment strategy, what broker they use, and what their favorite web sites and chat rooms are. Also, their best and worst picks, along with the long term track record. My favorite one is the Stock Angler in Chapter 9. The guy has a full time job, trades during the hour or two before he leaves for work, and has been able to achieve a 33% average annualized return since January 2003.

Every trader that is profiled provides an example of on of their successful trades, and shows how the decision was made to make the trade. I really like the last chapter which lists all the major investment websites which he calls Investor Incubators. You should read The Warren Buffetts Next Door for proof that you don't have to be Warren Buffett, George Soros, T. Boone Pickens, or Carl Icahn to be a successful stock trader.

Would you be interested in turning $20,000 into $650,000 in just a couple years, by just trading stocks? Think it's impossible? Can you guess who did?

This top trader is Shia LaBeouf, star of the upcoming movie, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. In a recent interview, he said that when he found out that he got the major role in the movie, he decided he better learn about the stock market, as he had never traded stocks before. He opened an account at Schwab (SCHW) and started trading constantly, building up his account to $650,000. Along the way, he talked to George Soros and Donald Trump. So all you have to do is find out what Shia did, or better yet, what he is currently trading, and follow in his footsteps.

Book Review: Blink

The book, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell, is a fascinating read about what happens with your thinking about a new person, thing, or event in the blink of an eye. One of the major takeaways is that your initial blink opinion about something is very often far more important than your opinion after a lot of research.

He brings a lot of business examples into the book including Coca-Cola (KO) and the Pepsi (PEP) taste test, and how the taste test is meaningless because people don't drink cola drinks blindfolded. He also mentioned how George Soros has a backache just before the stock market starts to turn against him.

If you want an interesting read of this book which ranks #56 out of all books, check out Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
