A Million Dollar Stamp

This isn't a forever stamp, but the owner of this stamp will be forever wealthy. This is the famous Inverted Jenny stamp which has an upside down airplane printed on it.

There are only five of these stamps in mint condition, known to exist.

The stamp will be auctioned off in New York next week, and may sell for $500,000 to a million dollars.

Why not add it to your investment portfolio?

Final Result of the Warren Buffett Lunch Auction

The Warren Buffett Power Lunch Auction through eBay (EBAY) was completed last week. This was the auction to have lunch with Warren Buffett, head of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A) (BRK-B), along seven friends. The auction was to benefit the GLIDE Foundation in San Francisco and its programs.

In case you missed it, the results are in. The lunch sold for $1,000,100.00, with 106 bids. Bidding started out at $25,000.

Unfortunately, this lunch didn't pull in as much as last year, when the auction was hammered at $3,456,789. What is interesting is that there were the same number of bids last year as there were this year.

As a matter of fact, the high bid this year didn't even come close to many of the previous years. In 2011, the Warren Buffett lunch went for $2,345,678, in 2010, the Buffett lunch sold for $2.6 million, and even in 2008, the lunch was auctioned off at $2 million.

Not sure why it is so low this year. Any thoughts?

$20 Million for Two Boxes of Hostess Twinkies

Someone listed $20 million for two boxes of Hostess Twinkies on eBay (EBAY)! (Thanks to Rachel Fox for finding this Twinkies news.) I guess union strikes and company shutdowns can generate a lot of news and end up creating new collectibles.

This listing closed on Black Friday, November 23, 2012, and had 51 offers. The sales price was technically $19,999,999.90. These were 13.5 ounce Golden Sponge Cake Cream Filling Cakes with ten Twinkies per box. One half the proceeds to be donated to the local children's hospital according to the listing.

Full Disclosure: Author of the article has never eaten a Twinkie and has no plans to do so in the near future.

A $2,000,000 lunch

Dress that sold for $4.6 Million

$110,000 for a Gun

$2.3 million for a Photograph

Who Would Pay $4.6 Million for a Dress?

Yes, $4.6 million was pad for a dress at an auction recently, but it wasn't just any dress. It was the dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 'The Seven Year Itch' where the air was blowing it up.

The dress was consigned to the auction by the famous singer, dancer, and actress Debbie Reynolds. Other dresses and Hollywood collectibles were also sold.

Here's an Investment: The Statue of Liberty's Nose

No, it's not the Brooklyn Bridge that's up for sale. It's a piece of the nose of the Statue of Liberty that will be auctioned off. It was one of four pieces of copper created as a backup replacement for the tip of the nose during the 1980s. One of the nose tips resides at the end of Lady Liberty's nose, one is owned by a collector, one has been destroyed, and the fourth can be yours. It will be auctioned off by Guernsey's Auction House.
