Cars that Run on Whskey

It may be hard to believe but cars can now run on whiskey, in addition to gasoline and diesel, according to a BBC article. Actually, it is whiskey residue from the whiskey making process called biobutanol. And the best feature is that the automobile engine doesn’t have to be modified.
But it is not just cars consuming liquor; humans seem to do a bit of consuming themselves. Last year, the sale of alcohol was $25.2 billion in the US, a 4.5% increase over the previous year, and the seventh yearly increase in a row.

Relax and Lose Weight

With money flowing into the coffers of liquor producers, some investors are taking a close look at companies in the alcohol industry. Studies have shown that liquor may help you lose weight, will help relax you (obviously), and might even cure blindness. Investors who believe that booze stocks can benefit from these alcohol health benefits, have several choices to choose from.

Jack Daniel’s

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is a liquor distributor which is famous for its Jack Daniel’s and Southern Comfort brands. The stock has a price-to-earnings ratio of 28, a forward P/E of 26, and provides a fair yield of 1.48%.

 Johnnie Walker

Diageo (DEO) is a London based alcoholic beverage distributor that markets numerous brands of whiskey, including Johnnie Walker Scotch whiskey, Crown Royal Canadian whiskey, JeB Scotch whisky, Buchanan’s Scotch whiskey, Windsor Premier Scotch whiskey, and Bushmills Irish whiskey. It also sells vodka, rum, and wine. The stock trades at 24 times trailing earnings, and 20 times forward earnings. It sports a higher-than-industry-average yield of 2.5%.

How to Invest in Donald Trump

Did you know that you can invest in a stock that developed and distributes Trump Super Premium Vodka? The company is Drinks Americas (DKAM), a Connecticut based company that trades Over the Counter on the Pink Sheets, and last traded for one hundredth of a cent. The vodka received four out of five stars by Spirit Journal. Unfortunately for potential tasters, the beverage is no longer sold in the US.

Drink Wine, Lose Weight, Buy Wine Stocks, Make Money

According to recent research at Washington State University, the consumption of wine can burn body fat and prevent obesity.  The study, published in the International Journey of Obesity, showed that resveratrol in the wine converts weight-gaining fat into calorie-burning fat. Of course, there have been many other studies showing the health benefits of wine, such as the prevention of Alzheimer's effects, and can help prevent diabetes.

Americans are jumping on the bandwagon, as consumption is up 4.4% for  2014, according to the Wine Institute. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has a list of over ten wine company stocks. Many of them trade over-the-counter but some trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is a wine distributor which markets the Sonoma-Cutrer  wines and Corbel California Champagne, along with other alcoholic beverages. Are you looking for vineyard and wine stocks that haven't become vinegar? Unfortunately, there aren't too many to pick from, and for many of the large wine producers, wine is a small part of the overall business.

According to the Wine Institute, Americans consumed 779 million gallons of table wine in 2013, the latest reported year. This is up from 749 million gallons the previous year. There are several reasons for this, including an increased preference for wine by an aging population, an explosion in the number of wine bars, and of course all the health benefits attributed to wine.

Based on the list of wine and liquor stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over a dozen wine companies to choose from. The majority of them trade over-the-counter but a few trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

Constellation Brands (STZ) is the largest wine producer in the world. It produces and sells table wines, sparkling wines, and even dessert wines. Brands include Robert Mondavi, Clos du Bois, and Ravenswood. The stock trades at 28 times trailing earnings and 23 times forward earnings.  Earnings for the company's latest quarter were up 5.3% year-over-year, on a revenue boost of 6.8%.

Willamette Valley Vineyards Inc. (WVVI), based in Turner, Oregon, makes and sells Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, The Griffin, and Viognier under the Griffin Creek label. The stock trades at 18 times earnings. For the quarter ending September 30, earnings spiked by an amazing 147% on a healthy 32.9% jump in revenues. The company will be reporting year end earnings at the end of March.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is another wine distributor which markets the Sonoma-Cutrer  wines and Corbel California Champaigne. The stock has a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 28 and carries a yield of 1.6%.

My Doctor Told Me to Drink Two Shots of Liquor a Day: Time to Buy Liquor Stocks?

So I went to my doctor for a physical, and he happened to mention to me that it is OK to drink, and I should have a couple glasses a day. (I don't drink and haven't for a long time.) So I said to him, "You mean a couple glasses of red wine?"

Booze is Healthy

And he said, "No, any kind of alcoholic beverage: two glasses of white wine, two beers, two shots of whiskey, whatever." He told me that recent research has shown that very moderate amounts of alcohol of any type can be beneficial for your health.

Relax and Lose Weight

Studies have shown that liquor may help you lose weight, will help relax you (of course), and might even cure blindness. Investors who believe that booze stocks can benefit from these alcohol health benefits, have several choices to choose from. Based on the list of wine and liquor stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over a dozen companies in the alcoholic beverage field, and several of them pay dividends.

Jim Beam

One example is Beam, Inc. (BEAM), which is an Illinois based company that produces bourbon whiskey, Scotch whisky, Canadian whisky, and other beverages under the brands of Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Sauza, Courvoisier, Canadian Club, Teacher’s, and Laphroaig. The stock trades at 37 times trailing earnings, has a forward price to earnings ratio of 27, and pays a yield of 1.1%. Earnings for the latest quarter were down 28.5% on a revenue increase of 6.8%.

Jack Daniel's

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is another liquor distributor which is famous for its Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort brands. The stock has a price-to-earnings ratio of 28, a forward P/E of 25, and provides a decent yield of 1.6%. Earnings for the latest quarter were up 19.1%, with a7.2 % boost in revenues.

It also sells vodka, rum, and wine. The stock trades at 19 times trailing earnings, and 17 times forward earnings. It sports a higher-than-industry-average yield of 2.1%. Look at Wine for your Health and Wine Stocks for your Portfolio Health

Red Wine - Health Benefits
It may be hard to believe, but lots of news is coming out about how good the 'bad' foods and drinks are. Last April, I published an article on how chocolate can reduce stress. Then just last week, I did a follow-up on chocolate stocks.

Now there is more recent information on Fox News with the title "Chocolate and red wine 'can beat diabetes.'"How can you beat that? The study researched 2,000 women and analyze the benefits of flavanoids in their diet.

Other research has determined that red wine may help prevent memory loss and even reduce the effects of Alzheimer's, primarily due to the resveratrol in the beverage.  Red wine has a much higher concentration of resveratrol than other foods such as peanuts and tomatoes.

Investors can choose from a few options regarding stocks in the production and distribution of wine, but often, wine selling is not a significant portion of the business. Based on the free list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over twelve stocks that distribute wine and liquor, two of which pay dividends.

Constellation Brands (STZ) is one of the major producers of alcoholic beverages, with a market cap of $14.4 billion. It is the largest wine producer in the world. The company makes and markets table wines, sparkling wines, and dessert wines. The stock trades at 7.7 times trailing earnings and 19.1 times forward earnings. Drinkers must be consuming a lot of their beverages as earnings for the company's latest quarter were up an incredible 92.7% year-over-year, on an amazing revenue boost of 88.2%.

Diageo (DEO) is a London, England based alcoholic beverage distributor which sells many brands of wine, including Blossom Hill, Sterling Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard, Navarro Correas, Acacia Vineyard, Rosenblum Cellars, Piat d'Or, Chalone Vineyard, and Santa Rita. The stock trades at 20 times trailing earnings and 17 times forward earnings. It pays a dividend of 2.9%.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is another liquor distributor which is most known for its Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort brands. It also sells the Sonoma-Cutrer brand of wines and Corbel California Champaigne. The stock has a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 27, a forward PE of 24. Latest quarterly earnings were up 19% on 7% rise in revenues. The company sports a yield of 1.6%.

If you are looking for more of a pure play, there is a small one based in Turner, Oregon, Willamette Valley Vineyards Inc. (WVVI), which produces and markets Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, The Griffin, and Viognier under the Griffin Creek label. The stock trades at 18.7 times earnings, but does not pay a dividend.

Treasury Wine Estates (TSRYF), which tradee at 59 times earnings, distributes the Berenger and Chateau St. Jean wine brands.

The Wine Shortage: Will It Help or Hurt Wine Stocks?

Did you know there is a wine shortage? It is being caused by the increasing number of wine drinkers, and the amount of wine being consumed by those wine drinkers is also increasing. In addition, the amount of wine being produced is dropping, according to Morgan Stanley Research, which showed that wine production hasn't been this low since before 1970.

One reason why the consumption of wine is increasing is that studies have shown that red wine may help prevent memory loss and even reduce the effects of Alzheimer's, primarily due to the resveratrol.  Red wine has a much higher concentration of resveratrolthan other foods such as peanuts and tomatoes.

There are several companies involved in the production and distribution of wine, but in many cases, it is not the major portion of the business. Based on the free list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over twelve stocks that distribute wine and liquor, two of which pay dividends. Constellation Brands (STZ) makes and sells table wines, sparkling wines and dessert wines. The stock trades at 7.4 times trailing earnings and 18.5 times forward earnings.

The stock trades at 20.5 times trailing earnings and 17.2 times forward earnings. It pays a yield of 2.9%.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is another liquor distributor which is most known for its Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort brands. It also sells the Sonoma-Cutrer brand of wines and Corbel California Champaigne. The stock has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 23.1, an improvement over its trailing PE of 27.6. The company pays a yield of 1.6%. Latest quarterly earnings were down 2.7% on 3% increase in revenues.

(WVVI), which produces and markets Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, The Griffin, and Viognier under the Griffin Creek label. Stocks Going Ex Dividend the First Week of June

Here is our latest update on the stock trading technique called 'Buying Dividends'. This is the process of buying stocks before the ex dividend date and selling the stock shortly after the ex date at about the same price, yet still being entitled to the dividend. This technique generally works only in bull markets. In flat or choppy markets, you have to be extremely careful, and may need to avoid the technique during those times.

In order to be entitled to the dividend, you have to buy the stock before the ex-dividend date, and you can't sell the stock until after the ex date. The actual dividend may not be paid for another few weeks. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has compiled a downloadable and sortable list of the stocks going ex dividend during the next week or two. The list contains many dividend paying companies, all with market caps over $500 million, and yields over 2%. Here are a few examples showing the stock symbol, the ex-dividend date, and the yield.

Avery Dennison (AVY) 6/3/2013 2.6%

Brown-Forman (BF-B) 6/3/2013 1.4%

CSS Industries (CSS) 6/3/2013 2.0%

Chicago Rivet & Machine Co. (CVR) 6/3/2013 2.4%

Cedar Fair L.P. (FUN) 6/3/2013 5.8%

Greenhill & Co. (GHL) 6/3/2013 3.5%

Halliburton Company (HAL) 6/3/2013 1.2%

Schlumberger Ltd. (SLB) 6/3/2013 1.7%

Home Depot (HD) 6/4/2013 2.0%

Dominion Resources (D) 6/5/2013 3.9%

The additional ex-dividend stocks can be found at wsnn.com. (If you have been to the website before, and the latest link doesn't show up, you may have to empty your cache.) If you like dividend stocks, you should check out the high yield utility stocks and the Monthly Dividend Stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com or WSNN.com.

Dividend definitions:

Declaration date: the day that the company declares that there is going to be an upcoming dividend.

Ex-dividend date: the day on which if you buy the stock, you would not be entitled to that particular dividend; or the first day on which a shareholder can sell the shares and still be entitled to the dividend.

Monthly Dividend Stock List

Record date: the day when you must be on the company's books as a shareholder to receive the dividend. The ex-dividend date is normally set for stocks two business days before the record date.

Payment date: the day on which the dividend payment is actually made, which can be as long at two months after the ex date.

Book now available: Buying Dividends Revised and Updated

Don't forget to reconfirm the ex-dividend date with the company before implementing this technique.

Does the Stock Market Drive People to Drink? How about Liquor Stocks?

Some investors believe that the stock market will drive them to drink. If you look at the graph, you will see a comparison of the wholesale alcoholic beverage industry employment (in thousands) versus the Dow Jones Industrial Average over the last twelve months. As you can see, it didn't matter whether the stock market was going up or down, the liquor employment kept steadily increasing or at least remained steady.

We've all heard about the beneficial effects of wine, primarily from the resveratrol, which studies have shown may improve memory and reduce Alzheimer's disease, plus provide longevity benefits.

But now it has recently been reported about the ability of whiskey to cure blindness. According to a news item from BusinessInsider, a man in New Zealand who become blind from drinking too much vodka, was given a bottle of Johnnie Walker whiskey by doctors as a treatment for the blindness. He was hospitalized for ten days but his vision eventually came back. It is believed that the excess methanol in the vodka caused the blindness, and the ethanol in the whiskey offset the methanol.

Red Wine May Prevent Alzheimer's Effects: Wine Stocks

Many studies have taken place showing that the consumption of red wine may help prevent memory loss, primarily due to resveratrol in the beverage. But most of these studies have been small. However, now a large scale clinical trial is taking place through the National Institute on Aging. It will involve a 26-center clinical trial which will study resveratrol's effects on brain function in people with Alzheimer's disease. Resveratrol, which occurs naturally in peanuts and tomatoes, has the highest concentration in red wine.

So what wine stocks are available to investors? According to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over a dozen stocks that distribute wine and liquor, a couple of which pay dividends. The largest is Diageo (DEO), an alcoholic beverage distributor which sells many brands of wine, including Blossom Hill, Sterling Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard, Navarro Correas, Acacia Vineyard, Rosenblum Cellars, Piat d'Or, Chalone Vineyard, and Santa Rita. The stock trades at 14.4 times forward earnings and sports a decent yield of 2.2%. Earnings for the quarter ending December 31 were down over 20% on an 8% rise in revenues.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B) is another liquor distributor which is most known for its Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort brands. Quarterly earnings were down 5.4% on relatively flat revenues.

If you are looking for a winery, there is a small one based in Turner, Oregon, Willamette Valley Vineyards Inc. (WVVI), which produces and markets Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, The Griffin, and Viognier under the Griffin Creek label. The stock trades at 16.6 times earnings. What Does Warren Buffett have in Common with Vice?

There is a mutual fund called the Vice Fund (VICEX), which invests in what it calls 'vice' oriented company that are in the business of either aerospace and defense, gambling, tobacco and alcoholic beverages. According to the company's web site, the fund says that "these industries tend to thrive regardless of the economy as a whole. In fact, they may have the potential to perform better when times are uncertain, leading many to view investment in 'Vice' industries as a solid strategy during recessionary periods." As of the end of November, the fund was up an amazing 9.62% year-to-date, while the S&P 500 generated a slightly above break-even return of only 1.08% during the same period.

It is interesting to note that many of the stocks in the Vice Fund have high yields, partially due to what I call the 'bad company discount'. Since many institutions and individual investors avoid these types of stocks, the buying arena is smaller than other stocks, causing the discount in price compared to other income stocks. This is especially true with tobacco and cigarette stocks, such as Altria Group Inc. (MO) which yields 5.5%, Lorillard, Inc. (LO) yielding 4.5%, and Philip Morris International, Inc. (PM) at a 3.9% yield, all of which are owned by Vice.

The alcohol stocks have yields but not as high as tobacco. Brown-Forman Corporation (BF-B), producer of Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort, provides investors with a yield of 1.7%. Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD), maker of Budweiser, yields 1.6%.

So getting back to the big question, what is the 'vice' stock that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A) (BRK-B) owns? The stock is General Dynamics Corp. (GD), which makes combat vehicles, weapons systems, munitions, and military ships. The stock trades at nine times forward earnings, and yields 2.8%. The company generated a very slight profit increase of 0.30% for the latest quarter, on a 2% revenue increase.

To see free lists of these stocks, WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has lists of Beer Stocks, Wine and Liquor Stocks, and Warren Buffett Berkshire Hathaway Stocks, which can be downloaded, sorted, and updated.
