What Stocks the Presidential Candidates Own

This has probably been the wildest election year in the history of the United States. What makes it interesting from a financial standpoint is that the candidates file an OGE Form 278 Public Financial Disclosure Report. By seeing what they own, maybe you can glean what will happen to these stocks if they get elected. Here are the investment holdings as of the candidates' latest filings.

Hillary Clinton (Democrat)
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton has a couple of Northwestern Mutual cash value whole life insurance policies, plus a universal life policy through AIG (AIG). She also has over $5,000,000 in cash in a J.P Morgan (JPM) account. In addition, she owns over $5,000,000 of the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (VFINX).

And that's basically it in terms of investment assets. However, she has received millions of dollars in honorariums from numerous companies, many of which are publicly traded, such as eBay (EBAY), Qualcomm (QCOM), and Salesforce.com (CRM).

Donald Trump (Republican)
Donald Trump
Donald Trump's form seems to go on forever, pages and pages of stock holdings. Instead of listing every one of them (around 600 listings), I've decided to list just a few of the stocks that he owns.

Agrium
AT&T (T)
Bank of Montreal
CenturyLink
Freeport-McMoran
General Electric (GE)
GlaxoSmithKline
Halliburton
International Paper
Mosaic
Pepsico (PEP)
Raytheon
Seadrill
Transocean
Verizon (VZ)
Wal Mart (WMT)
Apple (AAPL)
Caterpillar (CAT)
VISA
Gilead
Waste Management
Yahoo
Amgen
Philip Morris
UPS
MasterCard
Pfizer
Amazon (AMZN)
Costco
Disney (DIS)
Google (GOOGL)
Microsoft (MSFT)
Nike (NKE)
and the list goes on and on

Bernie Sanders (Democrat)
Bernie Sanders
It appears that Bernie Sanders doesn't own any stocks or investments. However, his wife owns over a dozen VALIC mutual funds. She also owns four Vanguard funds, each amounting to somewhere between $1,000 and $15,000 each.

Gary Johnson (Libertarian)
Gary Johnson
The financial statement for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate and former Governor of New Mexico, is not as up-to-date as the other three candidates. He owns lots of real estate including interests in motels and office buildings. In addition, he owns over 509,000 shares of Cannabis Sativa Inc. (CBDS).

Highest Yielding Dow Jones Industrial Average Stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Average seems to have become second fiddle to the Standard & Poor's 500 Index as a point of comparison to portfolios. However, it is still a very commonly tracked, reported and watched index. Have you wondered what the highest yielding stocks of the 30 stocks in the Dow are? Look no further. It is interesting to note, in the interest of full disclosure, that I own three out of the four.

AT&T Inc. (T) 5.93% PE: 13

Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) 5.90% PE: 127

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) 4.14% PE: 13

Merck & Co., Inc. (MRK) 4.12% PE: 9

Disclosure: Author owned T, VZ, and PFE at the time the article was written.

Highest Yielding Highest Rated Stocks

Many of the credit rating agencies were criticized for their ratings during the financial collapse of 2007 and 2008, especially with regards to collateralized debt obligation. However, investors still look at ratings for stocks to get some sort of guideline.

If you look at some of the major firms that rate stocks, and you look to see what stocks meet their highest ratings, you can get a good idea of what the major consensus is for which stocks are considered quality investments.

Standard & Poor's highest rating is five stars. The highest ratings for First Call Consensus are Buy and Strong Buy, the same with Jaywalk Consensus. The highest for Market Edge is Long, and for Jim Cramer 's TheStreet.com, the top rating is Buy. If you look to see which stocks meet all those ratings, and yield over 2%, you would come up with half a dozen firms. Here they are:

Windstream (WIN) 9.2%
AT&T Inc. (T) 6.5%
Genuine Parts (GPC) 3.9%
The Travelers Companies (TRV) 2.5%
Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) 2.2%
Tupperware Brands (TUP) 2.1%

If you want to see other high yield stocks, such as high yield electric utilities and stocks that pay dividends monthly, go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com.

The High Yielders of the Dow

Income investors looking for large companies paying high yields don't have to look far. Twenty of the stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average pay yields of 2% or more, and five of them have yields of 4% and higher.

AT&T Inc. (T), which is at the top of the list, has a yield of 6.4%, and carries a forward price to earnings ratio of 11. The company pays out over $9.9 billion in annual dividends which is extremely well covered by the company's operating cash flow of over $34 billion.

Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) yields 6.2%, and has a forward PE ratio of 12. Verizon's dividend payouts of $5.6 billion are also very well covered by the $31.5 billion in operating cash flow.

E.I. du Pont de Nemours (DD) pays a yield of 4.3% and has a forward PE of 14.5.

Pfizer, Inc. (PFE) has a yield of 4.2% with a forward PE of 7.6.

Merck & Company, Inc. (MRK) yields 4% and has a forward PE of 10.

No More Gatorade Endorsement for Tiger Woods

Pepsico (PEP) has decided to terminate the Gatorade endorsement of Tiger Woods, due to his marital issues. This is a follow-up to Pepsico's elimination of the Tiger Focus drink. And it is on top of the cancellation of the contracts with ATT (T) and Accenture (ACN). With all these contracts and connections going away, there isn't much left of the Tiger Woods Stock Index.
