Amazon Getting into the Film Festival Business (AMZN), which trades on NASDAQ, and the leading online retailer of books is getting into the film festival business. Amazon's subsidiary, the Internet Movie Database [], is acquiring Withoutabox []. Most independent filmmakers and all film festival producers are very familiar with Withoutabox, a top online resource for filmmakers to find film festivals in a simple and streamlined process for distributing their productions. [Authors note: I've used them in the past and was very happy with their services.] 100,000 filmmakers in over 200 countries utilize their service.

The connection with Amazon should increase the distribution options for the filmmakers, and will benefit Amazon by giving them another significant product line. Withoutabox is now looking for other forms of media to encompass in their business besides films.

Author does not own the above.
