Tom Brady May Be Deflated But Gisele Bundchen and her Stocks are Outstanding

The news about New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's suspension has been all over the sports news. Brady has been suspended for four games without pay due to the use of under-inflated footballs during the playoffs.

However his wife, top supermodel Gisele Bündchen has been doing extremely well. First, she still looks great at age 34, having appeared on the cover of Vogue Brasil. She appears nude, naked, and bare, and besides that, she doesn't have any clothes on.

Gisele Bünchen Making Money for Herself and the Companies She Represents

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you would notice that I have written about the companies that the famous Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bünchen has been connected with, and the Gisele Bünchen Stock Index. I wrote about it earlier this year, in 2013, in 2012, all the way back to 2007.

All Eyes on FIFA World Cup Soccer Games in Brazil: Anyone Looking at Brazil Stocks?

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the 20th world championship tournament for soccer (referred to as football in most other countries outside the US), which is taking place in Brazil for the next few weeks. The games run from June 12, finishing up on July 13. Think these games should help the Brazilian economy? Then how about Brazil stocks.

Brazil used to be considered the best of the BRICs, with BRIC referring to he four countries with strong growing economies: Brazil, Russia, India, and China. The iShares MCSI Brazil Capped ETF (EWZ) is up three and a half points just in the last week. However, over the last two years, the Standard and Poor's 500 Index has risen well over 40%, whereas the Brazil ETF has a negative return over the same time period. Now might be an interesting opportunity for contrarians.

The nice thing about Brazilian stocks is that there are a couple dozen that trade on US stock exchanges, according to the free list of Brazil stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. In addition, most of these Brazilian stocks pay dividends. Anyone who has read my previous articles knows that I really like dividend paying stocks. Dividends return your invested capital faster and help to reduce volatility.

One of the highest yielding Brazil stocks is Banco Bradesco (BBD), which pays a generous yield, including special dividends, of 6.8%. As an added bonus, it pays its dividends monthly. This Brazilian bank trades at 1.2 times trailing earnings, slightly better than the industry average price to earnings ratio of 11.3. It has a forward PE ratio of 9.

Bradesco's earnings for the latest quarter were up 18% on a revenue rise of 13%. The company was added to the Zack's Rank #1 Strong Buy List on May 16.

Another Brazilian stock that pays a decent dividend is Telefonica Brasil (VIV), which has a yield of 7.7%. Last year, the company paid out a dividend three times, and so far this year, the company has had three dividend payouts. The stock trades at 15 times trailing earnings, and 13 times forward earnings. Revenues for the latest quarter were up slightly, however earnings dropped 18%.

One Brazil company that is doing very well is Gerdau (GGB), which is in the steel business. The yield is relatively low at 1.9% but the earnings are high. Earnings for the latest quarter were up an amazing 168% on a revenue increase of 15%. The stock trades at 13 times forward earnings and a very favorable  6 times trailing earnings.

There are several other Brazil stocks with good earnings and adequate yields, which can be found at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. Around 20 of these stocks pay dividends. I'm not sure who is going to win the World Cub, but I think several Brazil stocks will be winners.

Disclosure: Author didn't own any of the above at the time the article was written, but may purchase a Brazil ETF in the next week if prices drop low enough.

Is Brazil Ripe for a Rebound? Top Brazilian Income Stocks

Holders of Brazil stocks have been suffering. During the last couple years, even though the S&P 500 was up almost 20%, the iShares MSCI Brazil Index ETF (EWZ) dropped by over 31%. Maybe a recovery is in the works. After all, Brazil is still the fifth largest country in the world by population and area, and the sixth highest nominal gross domestic product in the world. The country has huge oil reserves and is a world leader in alternative energy, primarily ethanol generated from sugarcane.

If you think it's time for a rebound, there are 25 Brazil stocks to choose from that trade in the US, according to the free list of Brazil stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. More than a dozen of the companies pay dividends with yields ranging from 0.5% to 7.8%.

Of course, if you don't want to pick and choose, you can stick with the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF, which owns a very diversified portfolio of Brazilian stocks. The average price to earnings ratio is 14 and the ETF even pays a yield of 2.8%.

If you like to make your own decisions on stock choices, you may want to take a look at Telefonica Brasil, S.A. (VIV), the large Brazilian telecom company, which pays a nice yield of 4.4%, and dividends have generally been paid semi-annually for over a dozen years. The stock trades at 11.4 times forward earnings.

Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (CIG) is another example. It is an electric utility that provides electricity primarily in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The stock trades at 6.4 times forward earnings, and pays a very high yield of 5.4%.

Other dividend paying Brazil stocks include Ultrapar (UGP) yielding 2.4% and Gerdau (GGB) paying a yield of 2.0%.

To see other Brazil stocks, many of which pay dividends, go the WallStreetNewsNetwork.com to access the list of Brazil stocks that can be downloaded, sorted, and updated. You can also find more Brazil stock information in the book Investing in Brazil Stocks: Get Rich from the South American Giant.

Brazil's Parsimony Economy

Brazil's policy makers recently said 'additional monetary flexibility should be conducted with parsimony.' In case you aren't sure what parsimony means, according to some online dictionaries, parsimony is thrift, unusual or excessive frugality, and the quality of being careful with money. The Brazil economy has been slow in terms of recovery, so the country's central bank has decided to drop its benchmark interest rate in July. For the first quarter of this year, Brazil's economy grew by only 0.2%, significantly lower than what analysts predicted. The government's state development bank BNDES is increasing low interest rate loans and, even better news, taxes on consumer and industrial goods have been reduced, in order to help spur on the economy.

So how have Brazil stocks been performing? Terrible! During the last year, even though the S&P 500 was up a couple percent, the iShares MSCI Brazil Index ETF (EWZ) took a dive, tanking about 28%. If you think it's time for a rebound, there are about 25 Brazil companies that trade in the United States, according to the free Brazil stocks list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. More than half of the companies have yields in excess of 3%.

Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (CIG) is one example. It serves electric energy primarily in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The stock trades at 12 times forward earnings, and pays a decent yield of 3.6%. Earnings the latest quarter ending March 31 were up 20% on a 15.1% rise in revenues.

Here's a contrarian stock for you: Gafisa S.A. (GFA), a developer of residential buildings including luxury residences. The company trades at 15 times forward earnings. Earnings for the latest quarter were down slightly, however, revenues were up 27%. Sporadic annual dividends have been paid during the last few years.

Telefonica Brasil, S.A. (VIV), the large Brazilian telecom company, pays a substantial yield of 4.4%, and dividends have usually been paid semi-annually for over 12 years. The stock trades at nine times forward earnings. Quarterly earnings were up an incredible 128.9% on an amazing 109.2% boost in revenues.

To see other Brazil stocks, almost all of which pay dividends, go the WallStreetNewsNetwork.com to access the list of Brazil stocks that can be downloaded, sorted, and updated.

Supermodel Gisele Stock Index Still Outperforms

Gisele Bunchen, the wife of football star Tom Brady, is the world's top earning supermodel, according to Forbes.

Gisele, who receives most of her income in euros and Brazilian reals, is a celebrity endorser and spokesperson for numerous products of many publicly traded companies. Back in 2007, I examined these companies and built them into the form of a stock index, in order to compare Gisele's stocks with the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The following graph shows the return for both from last year.

If you look at the returns from January 2011 to today, the Dow is up 11.2%, yet the Gisele Stock Index is up an incredible 25.7%. This return excludes Apple (AAPL), which used to be part of the index because Gisele Bundchen appeared on the 'Get a Mac' advertisements to promote the new line of Macintosh's a few years ago. If Apple was still in the index, her return would be even higher.

A selection of the stocks in her index include:

Volkswagon (VLKAY.PK) TV commercial spokesperson

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (RL) Advertising campaign face for Ralph Lauren, owned by Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.

Vivo Participacoes (VIV) Celebrity endorsement - largest mobile phone service provider in Brazil and in South America

News Corp. (NWSA) Starred in the comedy, Taxi, in her movie debut, and The Devil Wears Prada, both produced by 20th Century Fox, a division of News Corp.

Why Brazil Stocks?

Last week, the rating agency, Standard & Poor's, downgraded the credit ratings for nine countries, France, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia. Yet just a couple months ago, S&P raised Brazil's foreign currency rating with little fanfare. According to John Chambers, S&P Managing Director Sovereign Ratings, "the upgrade of Brazil was supported by the current administration's growing track record of prudent macroeconomic policies, including fairly consistent primary surpluses of close to 3% of GDP."

From an economic standpoint, Brazil is the seventh largest country in the world based on GDP. The country is the world leader in renewable source energy, especially ethanol which it generates from sugarcane.

Fortunately for investors, there are plenty of Brazilian stocks that trade on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Based on the free list of Brazil stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, twenty-five Brazilian stocks are available to US investors and almost all of them pay dividends.

One example is Braskem S.A. (BAK), the largest chemical company in South America. It makes and markets petrochemical and thermoplastic products. The stock trades at 15 times forward earnings and sports a very generous yield of 7.0%. Revenues for the latest reported quarter were up over 15%.

In the area of beverages, Companhia de Bebidas das Americas (ABV), also known as Ambev, makes and sells beer, soft drinks, malt, and other non-alcoholic and non-carbonated products. The stock has a forward price to earnings ratio of 20, and a yield of 4.3%. Revenues were up 6.6% for the latest quarter, although earnings were down 7%.

Gerdau S.A. (GGB), founded in 1901, manufactures and markets steel products. The stock trades at eight times forward earnings and offers investors a 2.9% yield. Latest quarter revenues were up 9.5%, with earnings up 31.9%.

Telefonica Brasil, S.A. ADS (VIV) is a fixed-line telecommunications company with a forward PE of 10, a yield of 1.4%. Quarterly earnings were up 105% on a 108% rise in revenues.

Supermodel Gisele Having a Baby Girl, Outperforming the Stock Market

Gisele Bündchen, the richest supermodel in the world and wife of football star Tom Brady, is pregnant with a baby girl and is expecting in December. Gisele is connected to a lot of publicly traded companies, acting as spokesperson for their products. Tracking the stocks she is connected with from January of 2007, the Gisele Bundchen Stock Index has greatly outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The stocks in her portfolio include:

Volkswagon (VLKAY.PK) TV commercial spokesperson

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (RL) Advertising campaign face for Ralph Lauren, owned by Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.

Vivo Participacoes (VIV) Celebrity endorsement - largest mobile phone service provider in Brazil and in South America

The Gisele Index is down only 2% for the last three years versus the Dow which was down 23%. By the way, Apple (AAPL) used to be part of her index because she appeared on the 'Get a Mac' advertisements to promote the new line of Macintosh's a few years ago. If Apple was still in the index, her return would be quite a bit higher.

Supermodel Stock Index Update: Celebrity Models Outperform the Dow

Two top modeling celebrities, Gisele Bündchen and Heidi Klum, both of which had celebrity stock indexes created by Stockerblog.com, have had their indexes updated and compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The one thing that these women have in common, other than the fact that they are wealthy, successful supermodels, is that both of their indexes have outperformed the Dow over the last two and a half years.

Their indexes are based on the companies that they are connected to in some way, such as acting as celebrity spokesperson. Since January of 2007, the Gisele Bündchen's index was down 6.7% and the Heidi Klum's index was up 1.1%, and both were significantly better than the return on the Dow which was down 26.1%. The stocks in their indices are as follows:

Gisele Bundchen
Volkswagon (VLKAY.PK)
Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (RL)
Vivo Participacoes (VIV)
News Corp. (NWSA)
Sony (SNE)
Procter & Gamble (PG)
Disney (DIS)

Heidi Klum
Limited (LTD)
McDonalds (MCD)
Volkswagon (VLKAY.PK)
Target (TGT)
Procter & Gamble (PG)
Nike (NKE)
Jones Apparel Group Inc. (JNY)
Hennes & Mauritz AB (HNNMY.PK)

Assumptions:
These are price-weighted indexes, similar to the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Supermodel Gisele Still Outperforms the Dow Jones Industrial Average

Gisele Bündchen, who was named by Forbes Magazine as the top earning supermodel and Guinness World Records said that she is now the richest supermodel in the world. In 2007, I developed the Gisele Bundchen Stock Index, which contained the stocks of companies that Gisele is connected with, such as being the celebrity spokesperson. At the time, her index was outperforming the stock market. I have updated the index to the present time, and noticed that Gisele has continued to outperform the Dow Jones Industrial Average significantly.

The stocks in her portfolio include:
Volkswagon (VLKAY.PK)
Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (RL)
Vivo Participacoes (VIV)
News Corp. (NWS-A)
Sony (SNE)
Procter & Gamble (PG)
Disney (DIS)

Although the Gisele Index was down by 15.7% since the beginning of 2007 to the present, it far outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average which was down over 30% during that same time frame.

Other celebrity stock indexes you may be interested in include the Heidi Klum Stock Index, the Eva Longoria Stock Index, the Angelina Jolie Stock Index, the Jessica Alba Stock Index, the Nicole Kidman Stock Index, the Freida Pinto Stock Index, and the Supermodels Stock Indices.

Assumptions:
This is a price-weighted index, similar to the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
